Time: 6:45 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
The 16th annual “Ride of Silence” cycling event will take place along the Rickenbacker Causeway on Wednesday evening, May 16, 2018. The Ride of Silence is a tribute ride which will traverse and unite the globe (50 States, 48 countries, 7 Continents). It is a national event to honor those who have been injured or killed, to raise cycling awareness and to ask that we all share the road.  Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways.

This event uses the Crandon Boulevard inside vehicle travel lane from the Crandon Park Marina to the Calusa Park circle. Please allow extra time to travel to the Village of Key Biscayne or leave the island during this event. The cycling event will start and finish within the Crandon Park Marina. Course Description: The bicycle ride will depart at 7:00 p.m. from the Crandon Marina parking lot, with the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) providing an escort type procession in marked squad cars. Once cyclists are cued up inside the marina parking lot, the MDPD will hold eastbound (inbound to Village of Key Biscayne (VKB)) vehicle traffic. Cyclists will turn right (eastbound toward the VKB) onto the roadway, merging to the inside inbound vehicle travel lane (lane closest to the center median). Unce the last cyclist is out, police will release vehicle traffic onto the outside vehicle travel lane (lane closest to the dedicated bike lane). Vehicle traffic traveling westbound (outbound to the mainland) from the VKB will be routed onto the outside vehicle travel lane (closest to the dedicated bike lane). Cyclists will follow the lead MDPD police vehicle on the inside inbound travel lane, turning at the Calusa Park circle (just past the fire station), traveling westerly (outbound towards the mainland) in the center inside lane to the Crandon Marina entrance. At this point cyclists will turn and complete a send loop, returning to the point of origin.
