THE MIAMI CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN BRINGS OPEN HOUSE WORLDWIDE TO MIAMI
The Open House Worldwide architecture festival will be coming to Miami, March 1 & 2, 2024! The Miami Center for Architecture & Design (MCAD) will lead the effort in partnership with the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Miami), the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA), the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), and a host of other community organizations.
"As an internationally recognized first-time event, Open House provides immersive, participatory opportunities for visitors and residents alike to access Miami Beach's iconic art deco buildings and signature architectural landmarks," said Executive Director of the MBVCA Grisette Marcos. "This marquee experience will enhance a superb collection of annual events activated on Miami Beach that positively benefit our city's hotels, restaurants and local businesses."
Open House Worldwide is a global network of nearly 60 nonprofit organizations from New York to Seoul, Buenos Aires to Maputo, San Diego to Miami! Each organization is dedicated to making cities more open, accessible, and equitable. The network now spans 52 festivals, 29 countries, and 6 continents.
Open House Miami will be only the fourth city in the U.S., following New York, San Diego, and Chicago, of what has become a worldwide movement to open cities and engage citizens in conversations about how to shape the future of where they live. What adds value to this event is the direct experience of the buildings themselves, accessible for free to all, with opportunities to learn, discuss and debate with experts and citizens alike. Collectively, Open House Worldwide members engage almost 1 million people a year in Open House events with nearly 2 million visits to buildings enabled by more than 18,000 volunteers. Taken together, Open House Worldwide is the largest celebration of the urban landscape in the world.
“MCAD is looking forward to bringing this event to Miami which, we believe, will add a new component to Miami’s place in the world as an architecture enthusiast’s destination,” opined MCAD’s Executive Vice President Cheryl Jacobs.
The three-day festival will give attendees access to workshops and behind-the-scenes building tours, as well as give them opportunities to meet some of Miami’s world-renowned architects. Open House Miami will not only be an attraction to architecture enthusiasts from around the world but will be an appealing event to locals!
