Name: Miami Is Not Plastic Launch Event
Date: January 10, 2018
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM EST
Event Description:
Join us at the launch of MIAMI IS NOT PLASTIC campaign, a collaborative initiative to inspire hospitality businesses in Miami, FL to reduce single-use disposable plastics as part of the global movement to clean our oceans.

By 2050, the ocean will contain more plastics than fish by weight, and Americans use 500 million plastic straws every day. Because single-use plastics, like straws, bags, silverware, and cups, are designed to last in perpetuity but are used for just brief moments, plastic pollution continues to accumulate in our oceans at a rate of 8 million tons per year.

On January 10 at 6:30pm, Miami Is Not Plastic will launch with an event at Rusty Pelican where hospitality leaders will be inspired to eliminate single-use plastics from their operations. At the launch event, local retailers and restaurateurs, along with the general public, will have the opportunity to meet with eco-friendly vendors and speakers and learn more about how they can get involved.

Among the organizations and city officials expected to take part in the program and attend the January 10th kickoff to date are: The Rusty Pelican Restaurant in Miami, Whiskey Joe's Bar and Grill Miami, Debris Free Oceans, Key Biscayne Mayor Mayra Pena Lindsay, Coral Gables City Commissioner Vince Lago, the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center, the FRLA (Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association), Bacardi, Dade Paper, Jackson Family Wines Saltwater Brewery, Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter, Lean Orb, BioTrem, Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center, VolunteerCleanup.Org, Miami Waterkeeper and Lonely Whale.
